Diyana is the Copyright & AI Counsel at Creative Commons, where she serves as a subject matter expert leading internal research, analysis, and strategy development, as well as public-facing communications and education.
She is dedicated to serving the good of humanity by combining her background in law, journalism, the arts, and community building. She is especially interested in the transformative power of the internet, and media/entertainment law (with a major soft spot for music).
Previously, as a policy analyst at Canadian Heritage, she helped draft and implement the Online News Act. She then joined the copyright policy team where she lead the music file and co-lead on AI, including Canada’s Consultation on Copyright in the Age of Generative AI.
Diyana holds a Juris Doctor and a double major in Arts and English Language and Literature from Western University, and she was called to the Ontario Bar in 2023. She is based in Montréal.
